This application is for people wishing to part in the Beyond Barriers student mentoring scheme at Kingston University. Mentees should note the scheme is only open to UK and EU students

Mentoring Expectations

There are a number of expectations of mentees and mentors. They are:

  • Attend a training event (if you have not previously taken part in the scheme) and other scheme events where possible.(all events are held between October and May).
  • Embrace the mentoring relationship and work actively with your mentor/mentee.
  • Keep in regular contact with your mentor/mentee e.g. by phone, email and face to face meetings with a suggested total contact time of 12 hours.
  • Complete and return evaluation questionnaires.
  • Inform the Scheme Coordinator of any developments such as difficulty or breakdown in the mentoring process as quickly as possible.
  • Contact the Scheme Coordinator straight away if a decision is made to withdraw from the scheme or if your contact details change.

Note to mentees. In addition to the above, you will be expected to:

  • Be a UK or EU student and still be a student at Kingston University in May 2020.
  • Assume responsibility to pursue contact with your mentor if a meeting has been missed for whatever reason.
  • Understand that if your mentor has not heard from you in 4 weeks, you may be withdrawn from the scheme.

Note to mentors. In addition to the above, you will be expected to:

  • Be based in the UK and able to attend mentor training and meetings with your mentee.
  • Have a minimum of three years' professional experience.

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

The information you are providing will only be used for the purposes of the Beyond Barriers Mentoring Scheme. The lawful basis for collecting this data is the contract between you and us for administering this scheme. The data will be held securely and only a small number of Kingston University staff will have access to this information. The purpose of collecting the data is so that we can contact you for the duration of the mentoring scheme and to match you to your mentor/mentee.
Once the match is made, your contact details will also be passed on to the mentor/mentee by email. We will only keep your information for 3 years for reporting and evaluation purposes after which we will keep the data anonymously for reporting.
